Welcome

A trusted partner for the financial work that quietly determines whether you're profitable.

Hi, I'm Erica Holloway. For three decades, I've led treasury, credit, accounts receivable, and global insurance programs at publicly-traded multinationals — the kind of work that, when done well, runs invisibly in the background, and when neglected, quietly erodes margin and creates exposures no one sees coming.

I founded Big Nickel Treasury Inc. to bring that same level of senior, integrated oversight to organizations that need it but don't need a full-time executive on payroll. My focus is on the practical: clear scope, defined deliverables, and outcomes you can measure.

What I Offer

Service offerings.

Each service below is a focused, scoped engagement with a clear deliverable. Engagements can be combined or stand alone. All begin with a free 30-minute consultation.

SERVICE 01

Treasury Function Build & Optimization

PROJECT · 6–12 WEEKS

Stand up — or stabilize — a treasury function that gives your CFO confidence in cash position, banking structure, and operational controls. Ideal for organizations whose treasury work has grown beyond what the controller's office can absorb.

What's Included
  • Current-state assessment of treasury operations
  • Banking structure and counterparty review
  • Liquidity and cash position dashboards
  • Treasury policy and controls documentation
  • Audit-ready process documentation
  • Implementation roadmap with priorities
Many clients keep me on as their fractional Treasurer to run the function once it's built.
SERVICE 02

Cash Forecasting & Liquidity Strategy

PROJECT · 4–8 WEEKS

Build a forecasting model and liquidity framework that lets you anticipate shortfalls and surpluses with confidence — and know what to do about each. The same scenario-based approach used in public-company treasury, scaled to your business.

What's Included
  • Scenario-based cash forecasting model
  • Multi-currency consolidation logic
  • Liquidity policy framework
  • Investment and borrowing decision triggers
  • Monthly review cadence design
  • Training for your finance team
SERVICE 03

Banking Consolidation & Fee Reduction

PROJECT · 8–16 WEEKS

Review your global or domestic banking footprint, identify consolidation and automation opportunities, and execute the migration plan. Most engagements pay for themselves through fee reduction within the first year.

What's Included
  • Bank account inventory and fee analysis
  • RFP process design and execution
  • Account rationalization plan
  • FX payment platform evaluation
  • Migration project management
  • KYC and onboarding coordination
SERVICE 04

B2B Credit Policy & Underwriting

PROJECT · 6–10 WEEKS

Design or refresh a credit policy and underwriting workflow that protects against bad debt without slowing down sales. Drawn from Credit Institute of Canada methodology and large-portfolio underwriting experience.

What's Included
  • Credit policy design or refresh
  • Customer risk assessment framework
  • Credit limit governance structure
  • Underwriting workflow and approvals
  • Counterparty review templates
  • Sales-and-credit alignment protocols
Many clients then engage me to run B2B credit underwriting and customer onboarding under their banner.
SERVICE 05

Accounts Receivable & Payable Operations

PROJECT OR CONTRACTED ROLE

Strengthen your AR and AP functions through transformation work, or step in as a contracted member of your finance team to lead day-to-day operations. The same playbook used to take a $1B+ AR portfolio from 62 to 37 DSO days, brought directly into your business at the cadence and depth you need.

For operational engagements, I am engaged as a contracted member of your finance team — acting solely on your behalf, in your company's name, under your existing systems, signature lines, and contact information. Not as an outside collection agency.

What's Included
  • AR portfolio diagnostic and aging analysis
  • Collections process design and redesign
  • DSO improvement programs and KPI dashboards
  • AP workflow and payment timing strategy
  • Vendor management and working capital optimization
  • Allowance for doubtful accounts methodology
  • AR/AP team coaching, structure, and supervision
  • Day-to-day AR/AP operational leadership (contracted)
SERVICE 06

Commercial Insurance Program Review

PROJECT · 6–12 WEEKS

An internal-expert review of your commercial insurance program — property, casualty, cyber, D&O, cargo, fiduciary, and workers' compensation. I work alongside your appointed brokers to ensure your interests are properly represented and your coverage matches your real exposures.

What's Included
  • Coverage gap and overlap analysis
  • Premium benchmarking and renewal strategy
  • Broker oversight and accountability
  • Policy and certificate documentation
  • Risk transfer and contract language review
  • Annual renewal preparation playbook
Many clients keep me on as their internal Insurance Manager to oversee the program through renewals and claims.
SERVICE 07

Claims Management Support

PROJECT OR ONGOING

When something goes wrong, the claims process determines whether you recover or lose. I serve as your internal claims manager — coordinating documentation, adjusters, brokers, and counsel to protect your recovery position from notification through settlement.

What's Included
  • End-to-end claims oversight
  • Documentation and evidence coordination
  • Adjuster and broker management
  • Settlement strategy advisory
  • Reserve and accrual coordination
  • Lessons-learned and policy recommendations

  • Performance reporting design
  • Audit and compliance preparation
  • Member communication review
SERVICE 09

Treasury Controls & Audit Readiness

PROJECT · 4–8 WEEKS

Design or refresh the treasury control environment to withstand external audit, prevent fraud, and stand up to public-company-grade scrutiny. Includes documentation that auditors actually accept.

What's Included
  • Treasury controls assessment
  • Fraud monitoring framework
  • Segregation of duties review
  • Process and policy documentation
  • Audit-readiness preparation
  • Counterparty and bank account governance
SERVICE 10

Team Training & Capability Building

WORKSHOPS · COACHING · CUSTOM PROGRAMS

Build internal capability by training your team to operate at a senior practitioner level. I deliver structured training programs across three high-impact finance roles where mid-market organizations consistently need depth: B2B Credit Manager, Insurance Manager, and AR Collections lead.

Programs draw on Credit Institute of Canada, RIMS Canadian Risk Management, and CTP-grade methodology — but every curriculum is tailored to your industry, your systems, and the actual work your team is being asked to do. The goal is permanent capability transfer, not generic theory.

What's Included
  • B2B Credit Manager curriculum (policy, underwriting, governance)
  • Insurance Manager curriculum (program oversight, brokers, claims)
  • AR Collections curriculum (strategy, dialogue, escalation, recovery)
  • Custom case-based workshops tailored to your business
  • One-on-one mentoring and progression coaching
  • Written playbooks and reference materials
  • Skills assessment and progression frameworks
  • Certification pathway support (CTP, CCI, RIMS)

How It Unfolds

From plan to practice.

Most engagements unfold in two phases — first the assessment and the plan, then the operational work to deliver it. You can engage me for one phase, or both.

PHASE 01

Assess & Plan

Diagnostic work, strategy design, and a clear, implementable plan. Delivered as a defined-scope project with a flat fee and a fixed timeline. You walk away with what to do — even if you implement it internally.

Typical Engagements AR diagnostic · Treasury function design · Insurance program review · Credit policy build · Claims process review
PHASE 02

Execute & Lead

Step into your business as a contracted member of your finance team to deliver the plan — lead the function, run the operations, and transition the work to your internal team when ready. Delivered on a fractional retainer or interim contract basis.

Typical Roles Fractional Treasurer · Insurance Manager · AR Manager · Credit Manager · Pension Committee Advisor
Engage me for one phase, or both.

What You Can Expect

Practical outcomes, measured in dollars and confidence.

Every engagement is designed around outcomes you can see and your CFO or board can measure.

Stronger cash position

Better visibility into where cash is, where it's going, and what to do when it runs short or builds up. Forecasting that anticipates problems instead of explaining them.

Lower banking and insurance costs

Consolidation, RFP discipline, and broker oversight that reduce fees and premiums while improving the quality of services and coverage you receive.

Reduced credit and AR risk

Tighter underwriting, faster collections, and lower DSO — without damaging customer relationships or slowing the sales cycle.

Audit-ready governance

Documentation, controls, and process discipline that hold up to external audit, board scrutiny, and regulatory review.

How It Works

A simple, four-step start.

01

Free Consultation

A 30-minute call to understand your situation and whether my expertise is the right fit.

02

Scope & Proposal

A written proposal with clear deliverables, timeline, and pricing — agreed before any work begins.

03

Engagement Begins

Most projects start within two weeks. Fractional and interim engagements often start sooner.

04

Ongoing Partnership

Regular reviews and adjustments as work evolves. You always know where things stand.

A Note on Insurance Services

I am not a licensed insurance broker or agent. On insurance and claims engagements, my role is as your internal expert — working alongside your appointed brokers and providers to ensure your company's interests are properly represented and managed.

Frequently Asked

Common questions.

How much does an engagement cost?
Project work is priced as a flat fee tied to a defined scope, typically ranging by complexity. Fractional retainers are billed monthly. Interim contract roles are billed hourly or weekly. Pricing is always agreed in writing before work begins — no surprise invoices.
Can you be engaged as an independent consultant or contracted employee?
Both. I'm comfortable being engaged as an independent consultant on a project or retainer basis, or as a contracted employee through your payroll if that structure works better for your organization.
What size of organization do you work with?
My background is at large publicly-traded multinationals, but my fractional practice serves a broader range — from mid-market companies needing institutional rigour without a full-time Treasurer through to large organizations needing senior bench depth on a specific initiative.
Do you work remotely or on-site?
Most work is delivered remotely from Sudbury, Ontario, with travel to your location as the engagement requires. I work with clients across Canada and globally.
How quickly can we start?
Most projects start within two weeks of an initial proposal. Fractional retainers and interim placements can often start within days when timing is critical.
